THE ALPHABET - PHONICS

Sometimes when you want to pronounce new words in English children have problems to understand how it sounds. This is why I start teaching the first sounds and phonics of each letter soon. There are more phonics of course and I know it, but this is a way to start with songs and playing with our class.

I usually start with ESL children singing songs, then we will continue with chants. I try to play with flashcards too, so they can get used to recognize the letters, first uppercase and then lowercase.  Furthermore, If they already know how to pronounce each letter I introduce an activity spelling their names. It is funny for them and they feel motivated.
It depends on the age or the level of your class when you choose your resources. But you have here some examples. The next video is suitable for children who don't know how to read yet.

This one is perfect to Primary School students. If you visit the next link they have tones of videos to practice.

Look what you can achieve if you practice enough with them. They love to sing and dance and never stop moving:

I strongly recommend you to visit: https://www.jollylearning.co.uk/jolly-phonics/

In this website they explain to you how Jolly Phonics work and step by step what to do. They include in their website a program progression very useful if you are starting. It helped me a lot.

Some resources like flashcards or a basic alphabet:

I hope these examples will help you.

See you later, alligator!
